My name is Torey C. and I am the owner of Neptune Aquarium Design, a full service aquarium maintenance and design firm located in Sacramento California. My passion for fish keeping began when I was just 11 years old in a small coastal town in central California called Los Osos. My family would often visit an area close by that had some great tide pools. I loved spending hours looking at the creatures that I would find living their lives in the tide pools. carefully removed from one of the tide pools. A couple of years later, during a visit to a local pet shop one Saturday afternoon, I had seen some very interesting Glass Catfish. Soon after, I purchased my first real tank with my paper route money and brought those fish home.
Fast forward a few years to my mid twenty's and you would find me totally immersed in this hobby. After obtaining a Scientific Collectors Permit from the California Dept. of Fish and Game, I began studying various species of fish and invertebrates that I collected in Northern California. Within a year I would eventually wind up with 27 aquariums lining every wall in my tiny apartment, filled with all sorts of wonderful things from the sea.
Then one day after spending all of my money at a local aquarium store I realized that I could not afford the upkeep on all these aquariums. After talking with an employee at the store, it dawned on me that other people might be willing to pay me to clean their fish tanks. What a perfect solution! I could earn extra money to support my love of fish and spend time doing what I enjoyed at the same time. The next Saturday I posted an ad in the same fish store. In a short time, I had my first customer. One thing led to another and after a few years, I had managed to grow my hobby into a business that would support my family, my two brothers, a nephew and a few employees as well. Along the way I was gaining valuable experience with all sorts of aquariums and fish too. And soon my company and I would be designing and installing some of the most beautiful custom aquariums in Northern California. Because of the experience my 22 years in business have given me and the many situations that I have found myself in over the years, I have learned to solve virtually every aquarium problem that there is. If you think that it is challenging taking care of one fish tank, imagine what it's like to keep 100 going. That's a lot of balls in the air! I also learned very early on that I really enjoyed the process of transforming someones vision into a reality. I also realized what it meant to help people have the beautiful aquarium they had always dreamed of. That realization is the basis for this website.
